Dr. Lu Yang is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting in the Department of Accounting at Monash Business School, Monash University. She earned her Ph.D. in management accounting from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Her research focuses on management accounting topics, including corporate social responsibility in compensation design, CEO turnover, the interactive use of accounting information in internal decision-making, performance measurement systems, and corporate governance. Lu Yang teaches courses such as Accounting for Sustainability (ACX2900 and ACX5900) and Global Issues in Accounting (ACX3900) at the Caulfield campus.
Lu Yang's research has been published in leading academic journals, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Business Finance and Accounting. Key publications include 'Compensation committee CSR-related expertise, CSR contracting quality, and performance implications' in the Journal of Management Accounting Research (2023), 'Information or pressure? The effect of director experience on CEO CSR compensation adoption and design' in the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting (2024), 'Inconsistency across short-term and long-term oriented signals: effect on investor reactions' in the Journal of Business Research (2024), and 'The complementarity between corporate social responsibility disclosure and performance' forthcoming in The Accounting Review (2025). She was awarded a 2019 AFAANZ research grant for her project 'CSR contracting and management earnings guidance' in collaboration with Dr. Leye Li from UNSW. Her scholarship is evidenced by over 155 citations on Google Scholar, contributing to advancements in CSR integration within executive incentives, governance, and firm performance. Lu Yang serves as a discussant at academic conferences, such as the International Consortium for Values-based Governance.
