Luciane Helena Gargaglioni Batalhão is an associate professor in the Department of Morphology and Animal Physiology at the Faculty of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences of Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) on the Jaboticabal campus. She holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto at the University of São Paulo, awarded in 1994. She earned a master's degree in Physiology in 1998 and a doctorate in Physiology in 2002, both from the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto at the University of São Paulo. Her doctoral training included a sandwich period at the University of British Columbia, and she completed postdoctoral work at the University of Calgary and the Centre national de la recherche scientifique in France.
Her research centers on respiratory physiology and comparative physiology, with particular emphasis on responses to hypoxia and hypercapnia, sexual dimorphism, prenatal stress effects on ventilation, thermoregulation, and the roles of the locus coeruleus and serotonin systems during development. Since joining UNESP in 2004, she has established and led her own research laboratory, securing ongoing support from the São Paulo Research Foundation and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. She maintains an active publication record in peer-reviewed journals focused on these topics and holds the title of CNPq Research Productivity Fellow at Level 1C.
