Dr. Lucinda Thatcher holds the position of Senior Professional Practice Fellow and Paper Convener at the University of Otago, affiliated with the Centre for Rural Health, Faculty of Medicine, Health Sciences Division. Her professional base is in Gisborne within Health Sciences, with Dunedin contact details. She functions as Rural Hospital Specialist and CME Convener for the Rural Postgraduate Programme at the Centre for Rural Health. She organizes Rural CME Webinars in conjunction with the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine. These webinars are accredited by RNZCGP for MOPS points, with one hour equaling one CME point, and target rural medical practitioners.
Dr. Thatcher has convened webinars on diverse topics including 'The itis' of the abdomen (December 11, 2023), oncological emergencies (February 26, 2024), acute orthopaedic management in rural NZ (October 16, 2023, co-presenting pediatric and adult upper limb cases), ophthalmology (May 8, 2024), capacity and competency (June 17, 2024), haematology high counts, and vertigo update with Justine Bradley. She serves as Workshop Convener for the Rural Generalist CME Workshop 2026 and handles related enquiries. Earlier, as Rural Hospital Medicine Registrar, she authored a case report 'Latrodectism: case report of a katipo spider (Latrodectus katipo) bite and review of the literature' in the New Zealand Medical Journal (2012) and contributed to publications on rural hospitals in New Zealand.
