Rate My Professor Lucy Burkitt

Associate Professor Lucy Burkitt holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours (1998) and a Doctor of Philosophy (2003), both from La Trobe University. She serves as Associate Professor in the School of Agriculture and Environment at Massey University, where she contributes to teaching in the undergraduate Integrated Farm and Environmental Management programme as well as Intermediate and Advanced Freshwater Farm Planning professional development courses. She also teaches in the Intermediate and Advanced Sustainable Nutrient Management courses.

Her research focuses on soil health and nutrient management in pastoral agriculture, with particular emphasis on phosphorus and nitrogen losses from agricultural soils, water quality, strategies to attenuate or mitigate nutrient loss, and the impacts of diverse pasture and regenerative management on soil health and environmental outcomes. She is the Soil Research Lead for the Whenua Haumanu regenerative agriculture programme. Burkitt has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles on topics including nutrient dynamics, silvopastoral systems, and freshwater farm planning in New Zealand contexts.
