Luis Escobar is a Professor and Graduate Advisor in the Department of Experimental Statistics at Louisiana State University. He received his Ph.D. from Iowa State University in 1981. Escobar's research interests include life testing, linear models, statistical computing, statistical methods for reliability data analysis, accelerated life tests, degradation models, fatigue-life and fatigue-strength distributions, confidence intervals, tolerance intervals, prediction intervals, Bayesian statistical intervals, likelihood-based inference, censored data analysis, accelerated degradation tests, simulation-based methods, experimental design for reliability assessment, competing risks models, condition-based and failure-based reliability paradigms, and copula-based multivariate analysis. His work addresses applications in engineering reliability, traffic flow modeling, environmental studies, and advanced statistical techniques for censored and simulated data.
Escobar has co-authored several influential books, including Statistical Methods for Reliability Data, Second Edition (2022, with William Q. Meeker and Francis G. Pascual), a comprehensive resource with 23 chapters, four technical appendices, and data sets from real-life applications, widely used in graduate-level applied statistics courses for analyzing strength and lifetime censored data in fields such as engineering and medicine.
