Rate My Professor Luiz Carlos Zeferino

Luiz Carlos Zeferino is Professor Titular of Gynecology in the Department of Tocoginecologia at the Faculdade de Ciências Médicas of Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). He completed medical training with international stages in 1981 and 1982 at Università Degli Studi di Firenze in Florence, Italy; Hôpital Régional du Cancer in Marseille, France; and the Clinical Science Center at the University of Wisconsin in the United States. Zeferino has held multiple leadership positions at UNICAMP, including Director of the Faculdade de Ciências Médicas from 2018 to 2022, Superintendent of the Hospital de Clínicas from 2005 to 2010, and Executive Director of the Centro de Atenção Integral à Saúde da Mulher (CAISM) from 2004 to 2013. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Diretoria Executiva da Área de Saúde (DEAS) for the 2025–2029 term and as Director of the Division of Oncology at CAISM. He is also a member of the EC-CvC Expert Pool of the European Commission Initiative on Cervical Cancer at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization.

Zeferino’s academic contributions include more than 200 articles in specialized journals, 32 book chapters, and 2 books. He has supervised 33 master’s theses and 23 doctoral dissertations. His work centers on gynecologic oncology, with particular emphasis on cervical cancer screening and related areas. Zeferino has received 33 awards and honors and previously served as Technical-Scientific Director of the Fundação Oncocentro de São Paulo from 1987 to 1991. His extensive administrative and research roles have contributed to advancements in women’s health services and oncology at UNICAMP and beyond.
