He holds the title of Professor of Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Genomics. His academic background includes a bachelor's degree and licenciatura in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) in 2005, followed by a master's degree in 2008 and a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from UNICAMP in 2013. He completed postdoctoral research in genomics, gene expression, and evolution at the Harvard University TH Chan School of Public Health in 2016.
Del Bem previously served as a visiting professor at the Universidade Federal da Bahia from 2017 to 2018 and as Adjunct Professor of Evolutionary Genomics in the Department of Botany at the Instituto de Ciências Biológicas of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) from 2018 to 2025. His research centers on bioinformatics, evolutionary genomics, molecular genetics, phylogenomics, genome evolution, and plant molecular evolution. He leads the Del-Bem Lab and maintains active interests in these areas through his current appointment at USP.
