Professor Lukas Parker is a Professor in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University. His research focuses on communication for social change at the intersection of behaviour change, health communication and digital communication. He leads teams addressing social issues related to health and sustainability and has produced over one hundred peer-reviewed publications. Key works include the co-authored books Social Marketing and Advertising in the Age of Social Media (2020) and Social Marketing and Behaviour Change: Models, theory and applications (2014). Professor Parker leads the 3C (Communication and Change Co-lab) and co-leads Co-Lab, conducting applied research that informs social and behaviour change campaigns and government policy. Partners have included AusNet, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, the eSafety Commissioner, VicHealth, Football Victoria, Sustainability Victoria, Woolworths and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
He has more than two decades of international teaching experience in Australia, South Korea and Vietnam. He teaches in the Master of Advertising and Bachelor of Professional Communication programs, including the course Wicked Problems: Innovative Solutions. Professor Parker serves on the management committee of the Australian Association of Social Marketing and is a member of the Australia-New Zealand Marketing Academy and the International Social Marketing Association. Recent awards include the Industry Media Star 2025, the Award for Research Engagement and Impact from the College of Design and Social Context in 2025, the Dean’s Executive Commendation for Outstanding Contribution in 2025, and multiple Dean’s Awards for Integrated Scholarship/Praxis, Indigenous Engagement and Industry Engagement. His research interests encompass social marketing, health communication, behaviour change, social media, sustainability and consumer behaviour.
