Prof. M. Srinivas is a distinguished pediatric surgeon and academic leader at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He joined the institute in 1994 and progressed through the academic ranks to become Professor of Pediatric Surgery in 2011. His educational qualifications include an MBBS, MS in General Surgery, and M.Ch. in Pediatric Surgery from AIIMS New Delhi, along with MNASc, FISPU, FRCS (Glasgow), and DSc degrees. During his tenure, he has authored more than 200 research papers and trained thousands of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. In September 2022, he was appointed Director of AIIMS New Delhi, a position he held until April 2026, during which the institution achieved notable advancements including a rise to 105th position in the QS World University Rankings (2026) and sixth place in worldwide Brand Finance rankings, alongside significant increases in AB-PMJAY adoption and honors for Ayushman Bharat Health Account linkages.
Prior to his directorship, Prof. M. Srinivas served as Founder Dean of ESIC Medical College & Hospital in Hyderabad from 2016 to 2022 and held various national and international roles, including ex-officio member of the National Medical Commission, visiting professorships at IIT Madras, IISc Bengaluru, and South Asian University, and chairperson of the Research Council at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology. He received five gold medals during his MBBS studies, including one in Preventive and Social Medicine, as well as the U.C. Chakraborthy Award from the Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons. His contributions extend to establishing medical colleges, providing technical guidance for healthcare institutions, and participating in numerous government committees and task forces focused on medical education, research, healthcare quality, and system strengthening.
