Dr Madison Champion serves as a Lecturer and Unit Coordinator in Podiatric Medicine at the University of Western Australia's School of Health and Clinical Sciences, which falls under the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. A proud graduate of the institution, she obtained her Bachelor of Science on 1 December 2015 and her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine on 11 December 2015, both from UWA. Her dedication to educational excellence is evidenced by her appointment as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy by Advance HE on 30 January 2023. In her current appointments, Dr Champion is actively engaged in the delivery of the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, a three-year full-time postgraduate professional degree (course code 91870) accredited by the Podiatry Accreditation Committee and registered with CRICOS (075343A). This program, offered on the Crawley campus in Perth commencing each February, combines lectures, tutorials, practical classes, directed self-learning, case-based learning, and problem-based learning, with clinical practice beginning in the second year and approximately 20 hours of weekly formal contact time plus independent study.
Dr Champion teaches across the entire Doctor of Podiatric Medicine course, ensuring students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for diagnosing and treating foot and ankle conditions in clinical practice. She supervises podiatry students during their external clinical placements, providing guidance to bridge academic learning with professional practice in real-world settings. Furthermore, she oversees student research projects, supporting scholarly development in podiatry. Her specific teaching interests encompass podiatry student education, with a focus on developing key practitioner skills such as empathy and evaluating the efficacy of various assessment methods to enhance educational outcomes. Dr Champion coordinates several core units within the program, including Podiatric Medicine 1 (PODI4101), Podiatric Populations 1 (PODI4221), and Podiatric Biomechanics (PODI3114), contributing directly to foundational and specialised training in podiatric care.
