Dr. Mahmood Hossain serves as Professor of Computer Science and Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics at Fairmont State University. He joined the institution in August 2006 as Assistant Professor of Computer Science, advancing through the ranks to his current leadership position. Hossain holds a B.S. degree in Applied Physics and Electronics and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He further earned an M.S. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Mississippi State University, where his doctoral research centered on clustering multiple heterogeneous datasets with applications in document clustering and bioinformatics. Throughout his tenure at Fairmont State University, he has taught a wide variety of courses, including introductory and advanced programming.
Hossain's research specializations encompass data mining, cluster ensembles, hierarchical clustering, clustering of heterogeneous datasets, psychophysiological effects of auditory stimuli analyzed through fractal mining, and adaptive intrusion detection systems utilizing data mining techniques. His scholarly contributions include several notable publications. Key works feature "Music with resonance increases hemispheric synchronicity in EEG - implication for music therapy" (2019), "An effective ensemble method for hierarchical clustering" (2012), "A Mutually Supervised Ensemble Approach for Clustering Heterogeneous Datasets" (2012), "Non-linear Analysis of Psychophysiological Effects of Auditory Stimuli using Fractal Mining" (2012), "Extracting Partitional Clusters from Heterogeneous Datasets using Mutual Entropy" (2007), "An ensemble approach for generating partitional clusters from multiple cluster hierarchies" (2006), and "Adaptive intrusion detection with data mining" (2003). These publications reflect his focus on advanced clustering methods and data mining applications across diverse domains. His work has garnered 121 citations and 447 reads on ResearchGate, contributing to advancements in computational methodologies for complex data analysis.
