A true inspiration to all who learn.
Malwane M.A. Ananda is a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, specializing in Mathematics. He joined UNLV in 1989 as an Assistant Professor, advancing to Associate Professor in 1995 and full Professor in 2001. Ananda has held key administrative positions, including Graduate Coordinator from fall 2002 to summer 2003, Associate Chair from May 2004 to February 2005 and July 2009 to present, and Interim Chair from February 2005 to June 2006. Prior to his UNLV appointment, he served as Assistant Lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka from 1982 to 1983. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Statistics from Purdue University in May 1989, an M.Sc. in Statistics from Purdue University in May 1986, and a B.Sc. in Mathematics Special with First Class Honors from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1982.
Ananda's research focuses on statistical inference and reliability, particularly the generalized p-values approach and its applications in estimation and hypothesis testing. He has authored or co-authored numerous publications in leading journals, including 'Generalized F-tests for unbalanced nested designs under heteroscedasticity' in Annals of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics (1995), 'Two-Way ANOVA with Unequal Cell Frequencies and Unequal Variances' in Statistica Sinica (1997), 'Bayesian Methods for Mark-Resighting Surveys' in Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods (1997), and 'Performance assessment of multiple engineered barrier systems' in Applied Mathematics and Computation (1999). More recent contributions include 'Generalized Statistical Inference for Quantiles of Two-Parameter Gamma Distribution' (2024), 'twowaytests: An R package for two-way tests in independent groups designs' (2024), and works on exponentiated composite distributions and peaks-over-threshold modeling with insurance data. His scholarship has garnered over 1,100 citations, underscoring his influence in statistical methodology. Ananda has supervised graduate students, notably Kahadawala Cooray, UNLV's first Ph.D. recipient in Mathematical Sciences.
