About Manoj

Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari serves as the Founding Director of the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai. He previously held the position of Director of the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Mumbai from 2019 to 2023. Prior to these roles, he was a Professor with Higher Academic Grade at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur since 2016, where he also served as Head of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering from 2013 to 2016, Board of Governors member from 2016 to 2018, and Dean of Planning and Coordination from 2017 to 2019. He is currently on lien from IIT Kharagpur. In addition, he has held the additional charge of Vice Chancellor of Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai since September 2023.

Prof. Tiwari earned a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Visvesvaraya Regional Engineering College (now VNIT Nagpur) in 1986, an M.Tech. in Production Engineering from Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (now MNNIT Allahabad) in 1990, and a Ph.D. from Jadavpur University in 2004. His research focuses on manufacturing systems and supply chain management, with interests in modeling manufacturing processes, operations analysis in supply chain networks, optimization, simulation, and computational intelligence. He has published over 370 papers in international journals, with a Google Scholar h-index of 87 and over 31,000 citations. He is a recipient of the David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award from IISE USA in 2023, the Mahalanobis Distinguished Educator Award from the Operations Research Society of India, and the Lillian Gilbreth Award. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences India, and Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers USA. Prof. Tiwari serves as Associate Editor for several journals including IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems and International Journal of Production Research, and has contributed to editorial boards and national committees.
