Dr. Marcin Wolski is a Senior Lecturer in Tribology at Curtin University's School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He obtained his Master of Science degree from Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland in 2005 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree with distinction in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Western Australia in 2011. After completing his PhD, he took up the position of Research Fellow in the Tribology Laboratory at Curtin University. Over the years, he has advanced through the ranks to Lecturer and now Senior Lecturer. In 2013, Dr. Wolski was honored with the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA), recognizing his outstanding potential in research.
Dr. Wolski's academic interests lie in the numerical analysis of tribological and bio-tribological surfaces, data analytics, and texture characterization techniques. His research contributions include innovative methods for the automated selection of bone texture regions on hand radiographs and directional fractal signature analyses for trabecular bone texture, with applications in predicting osteoarthritis progression. He has been involved in developing the Bone Data Lake platform, a storage solution for bone texture analysis data. Key publications authored or co-authored by Dr. Wolski include "Bone Data Lake: A storage platform for bone texture analysis" published in 2025 in Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine; "Trabecular bone texture is associated with progression to erosive hand osteoarthritis" in Osteoarthritis and Cartilage in 2025; "Directional fractal signature methods for trabecular bone texture in hand radiographs" in Medical Physics in 2014; and "Towards the automated classification system of worn surfaces" in Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology in 2019. His scholarly output comprises 34 publications, garnering over 535 citations on ResearchGate. Furthermore, as an accredited Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy educator holding professional AWS certifications, he teaches courses such as Data Analytics for Engineers in the Cloud. Dr. Wolski has also shared his expertise through guest lectures, including a presentation on tribology at AGH University of Krakow.
