Kai Chung Marco Chan, professionally known as Marco Chan, is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Leadership and Innovation at Buckinghamshire New University, where he has been since 2022. He serves as Course Leader for key undergraduate aviation programs, including BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Commercial Pilot Training in Aeroplanes (Full Time), BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Commercial Pilot Training in Helicopters (Full Time), BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Private Pilot Training in Aeroplanes (Full Time), and BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Private Pilot Training in Helicopters (Full Time). He is also part of the teaching team for BSc (Hons) Aviation Management (Full Time), BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Logistics (Full Time), and BSc (Hons) Global Security with Aviation (Online Full Time). Chan's academic background includes a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering from the University of Adelaide, a Bachelor of Laws from the City University of Hong Kong, and studies in European Competition Law and Policy at University College, University of Oxford. His specialism provides an in-depth understanding of global aviation regulation, enhanced by substantial industry experience.
Before joining Buckinghamshire New University, Marco Chan worked as an airline pilot flying the Airbus A330 for Hong Kong Airlines. Previously, he was selected for Cathay Dragon's fully sponsored Cadet Pilot Programme, obtaining his Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) and Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), and flying the Airbus A320 aircraft. A career highlight was his role as Cadet Pilot Recruitment Ambassador and Second Officers’ mentor for his airlines. Chan has extensive involvement in education, serving as Head of Education Development in groups across the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. He collaborated with the British Council on projects bridging UK institutions and education groups with international partners in higher education. He conducted recruitment talks at various universities in Hong Kong to assist aspiring pilots. As a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Chan frequently contributes expert commentary on aviation operations and safety to national media outlets, including live appearances on Sky News Breakfast analyzing recent incidents.
