About Marco

Professor Marco Corradi is a Professor in Civil Engineering in the Department of Engineering, School of Computing and Engineering, at the University of Huddersfield, where he also serves as Subject Area Lead for Civil Engineering. He earned his PhD in Seismic reinforcement of masonry with composite materials from the University of Perugia in 2002 and an undergraduate degree in earthquake engineering from the same institution. His career trajectory includes serving as a researcher at ISRIM, the Higher Research and Training Institute for Special Materials and Advanced Technologies (1997-1998), Departmental Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the University of Perugia (2005), and head of the Structures Laboratory there (2005-2013). In 2013, he joined Northumbria University as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering, advancing to Associate Professor in 2016 and Head of Civil Engineering. Corradi is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers (FIStructE) and the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and a member of the Academy Raffaello in Italy, the History Society for Umbria, and the Order of Malta.

Corradi's research focuses on earthquake engineering and retrofit methods for existing structures, with emphasis on masonry and timber, alongside structural analysis, new materials, historic buildings and monuments, natural fibres, and long-term behavior of advanced materials for structural applications. He has authored 287 articles and 4 books, achieving an h-index of 44 and 7,317 citations. Notable publications include 'A method for flexural reinforcement of old wood beams with CFRP materials' (2005, Composites Part B: Engineering, 471 citations), 'A method for the analysis and classification of historic masonry' (2015, Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering, 332 citations), 'Glass fabric reinforced cementitious matrix: Tensile properties and bond performance on masonry substrate' (2017, Composites Part B: Engineering, 305 citations), and 'Experimental study on the determination of strength of masonry walls' (2003, Construction and Building Materials, 301 citations). He serves as Editor of Construction and Building Materials (Elsevier) and on the editorial boards of Journal of Composites for Construction (ASCE), Materials, and International Journal of Masonry Research and Innovation. Corradi chaired the Northern Counties Committee of IStructE (2020-2022) and participates in standardization committees for British Standards, RILEM, and the Masonry Society in the UK, EU, and US. He has delivered keynote lectures, including at Embedding Sustainability in Retrofit and Repair of Architectural Heritage (2021).
