Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Marcus Halik serves as W2-Professor at the Institute of Polymer Materials within the Materials Science Department at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, a position he has held since September 2005. He leads the Organic Materials & Devices research group, which was established upon his appointment. His academic background includes studies in Chemistry from 1990 to 1995 at the Technische Hochschule Leuna-Merseburg and Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, with a main focus on Organic Chemistry. He completed his dissertation in 1995–1998 on Near-Infrared Dyes at Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. H. Hartmann. From 1999 to 2000, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Arizona with S.R. Marder, supported by a DFG fellowship. Between 2000 and 2005, he worked at Infineon Technologies AG in Erlangen on material and process development in polymer and organic electronics, low-k dielectrics, and molecular electronics. In 2005, he received an appointment as Assistant Professor at Harvard University, which he declined. His teaching responsibilities encompass courses in Nanotechnology, Organic Materials, Polymer Materials, Organic Semiconductors, and related topics within bachelor and master programs in Material Science, Nanotechnology, Advanced Materials & Processes, and Molecular Science.
Prof. Halik’s research centers on polymer materials and organic electronic devices. He maintains an active publication record, with contributions accessible via Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and Scopus.
