Marie-Louise Neilsen holds a Master of Arts from the University of Auckland and is an Associate of the New Zealand Institute of Management (MA(Auck) ANZIM). She joined the University of Otago in 1999 and spent the first 19 years of her career as the Faculty Administrator for the Faculty of Law, which forms part of the Division of Humanities. In this leadership role, she managed the faculty's administrative team, offering critical support and guidance to students and staff alike. She addressed a diverse range of challenges, ensuring the efficient functioning of faculty operations, and her contributions were frequently acknowledged in faculty newsletters.
Transitioning in 2018, Neilsen assumed the position of Manager within the University's Shared Services Division. University calendars document her subsequent involvement in financial services, human resources, and academic divisions. Presently, as Divisional Senior Manager for the Division of Humanities, she directs the provision of professional business, administrative, and operational services across the division. Collaborating with other senior managers, she implements uniform work processes and procedures at both divisional and university levels. She extends support to schools, faculties, and programmes for special projects and extra administrative assistance. Neilsen received the 2016 Appreciation Award as an outstanding Departmental Disability Contact in the Faculty of Law. She also contributed to the Advisory Review Committee for the University of Otago Human Genome Research Project.
