Mario Guerrero is the Chair and Professor of Political Science in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2012, with fields in American Politics and Methodology, an M.A. from the same institution between 2006 and 2008, and a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles between 2002 and 2005. Guerrero joined Cal Poly Pomona in 2012 as an Assistant Professor, advancing to Associate Professor in 2018, Full Professor in 2022, and Department Chair since 2019. Prior to this, he served as a Lecturer at the University of California, Santa Barbara from 2010 to 2012.
Guerrero teaches courses on American politics, including the presidency, Congress, and elections. His research focuses on campaign finance, emerging communication technologies, political behavior, politics and social media, voting, and political communication. He has received recognition as Professor of the Year and Outstanding Advisor at Cal Poly Pomona, along with the Cal Poly Pomona Outstanding Faculty Advisor award in 2016. Guerrero has held leadership roles such as election to the Academic Senate and its Executive Committee, serving as Interim Faculty Director and faculty fellow for the Office of Undergraduate Research, former president of the American Political Science Association’s Latino Caucus, and member of the Western Political Science Association’s Executive Council. He is also a Ford Foundation Fellow and RAND Faculty Leader, contributing to higher education and civic engagement through undergraduate research mentorship.
