About Mario

Mario Guerrero is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Political Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona), within the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences. He has held his current chair position since 2019. Guerrero advanced through the faculty ranks at Cal Poly Pomona, serving as Assistant Professor from 2012 to 2018, Associate Professor from 2018 to 2022, and achieving promotion to full Professor in 2022. Prior to joining Cal Poly Pomona, he was a Lecturer at the University of California, Santa Barbara from 2010 to 2012. Guerrero earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2012, with fields in American Politics and Methodology. He received his M.A. from the same institution between 2006 and 2008, and his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2005.

Guerrero's research focuses on political behavior, elections, politics and social media, campaign finance, voting, political participation, and emerging communication technologies. He teaches courses on American politics, including the presidency, Congress, and elections. He has served as Faculty Fellow for the Office of Undergraduate Research, Interim Faculty Director, and holds leadership roles including election to the Cal Poly Pomona Academic Senate and its Executive Committee, former president of the American Political Science Association’s Latino Caucus, and member of the Western Political Science Association’s Executive Council. He is also a Ford Foundation Fellow and RAND Faculty Leader.
