About Mario

Mário César Scheffer is Professor Associado (Livre-Docente) in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), in the area of Health Policy, Planning and Management. He holds a bachelor's degree in Social Communication from the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (1988), a specialization in Public Health from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas, and master's and doctoral degrees in Health Sciences from the Department of Preventive Medicine at FMUSP, along with two postdoctoral programs. Scheffer coordinates studies on medical demography in Brazil and conducts research in collective health, with primary focus on the health workforce and medical profession, public-private relations in health, and supplementary health.

He has served as a full member of the USP University Council, the National Health Council, the National Commission for Research Ethics, and the Supplementary Health Chamber of the National Supplementary Health Agency. Scheffer integrates the Policy Commission of the Brazilian Association of Collective Health and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Faculdade de Medicina Foundation and the Advisory Council of the Brazilian Institute for Consumer Defense. His work includes leadership in major reports such as the Demografia Médica no Brasil series, which analyze the profile, distribution, and training of physicians nationwide.
