About Marissa

Dr Marissa Edwards is a Senior Lecturer in Management at the University of Queensland Business School in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. She earned a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland. An award-winning educator, mental health advocate, and researcher, Edwards lectures in organisational behaviour, business ethics, and mental health promotion in the workplace. Her PhD research examined decision-making processes underlying silence and whistle-blowing. Her current research focuses on toxic work cultures associated with burnout, bullying, and sexual harassment in academia; PhD student well-being, engagement, and research culture; and mental health and psychological well-being among management students and educators. She facilitates workshops on academic mental health at universities in Australia, Europe, and the United States, co-founded the Voices of Academia blog dedicated to academic mental health and well-being, and co-edited the Research Handbook of Academic Mental Health published by Edward Elgar Press in 2024.

In 2022, Edwards received the UQ Excellence Award with a team from the Schools of Psychology and Education for research on PhD student well-being. Key publications include the edited Research Handbook of Academic Mental Health (2024); 'Mental health and psychological well-being among management students and educators' (2021, Journal of Management Education); 'Supporting student psychological well-being in the I-O psychology classroom' (2020, Industrial and Organizational Psychology); 'Emotions and failure in academic life: normalising the experience and building resilience' (2018, Journal of Management and Organization); 'Social and emotional learning in graduate school to improve student well-being and performance: A proposed training program' (2019, New Directions for Teaching and Learning); and Organisational Behaviour (2019, Pearson). She has held editorial roles with the Journal of Management Education and contributed chapters such as 'Introduction and historical review' and 'Conclusion' in the Research Handbook of Academic Mental Health (2024).
