Dr. Mark Conard is Chair and Professor in the Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies at Eastern Kentucky University, appointed to the position of full professor and department chair effective July 1, 2024. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy from Wright State University, an M.A. in Philosophy from Miami University, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Temple University in 1995, where he held a Fulbright Scholarship. Dr. Conard's research interests, as stated on his official EKU faculty profile, include Plato, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of mathematics.
Before joining Eastern Kentucky University, Dr. Conard served as Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Baltimore City Community College. Prior to that, he was a tenured associate professor and department chair at Marymount Manhattan College, where he served on committees at departmental, college, and institutional levels. His scholarship features eight edited books, including The Philosophy of Film Noir, The Philosophy of Neo-Noir, The Philosophy of Martin Scorsese, The Philosophy of the Coen Brothers, The Philosophy of Spike Lee, and Nietzsche and the Philosophers published by Routledge in 2017. He also co-edited The Simpsons and Philosophy and Woody Allen and Philosophy, both with Open Court Press, and has edited multiple book series. In addition, Dr. Conard has published articles and book chapters and delivered presentations.
