Mark Quarrie is the Hocken Collections Assistant at the University of Otago Library's Hocken Collections in Dunedin, New Zealand. Located at 90 Anzac Avenue, his direct dial numbers are +64 3 556 5957 and +64 3 479 4371 extension 4371. In this role, he contributes to the operations of the Hocken Collections, the official archive of the University of Otago.
In June 2019, Mark Quarrie commented on the acquisition of banners hung in the University Link by the Otago University Students' Association (OUSA, formerly MUSA) expressing grief and support for those affected by the Christchurch mosque attacks on 15 March. He stated that the Hocken Collections was happy to preserve them, noting that timely collection of such evidence is essential or there may be nothing for future people to examine regarding the impact on the University community. The banners are stored under conditions ensuring preservation in perpetuity for researchers and stand as poignant reminders of the community's response and a memorial to those who died. Mark Quarrie graduated from the University of Otago on 1 December 2012 with a qualification endorsed in primary education. He has been thanked for assistance in preparing multiple issues of the Hocken Friends newsletter Flotsam and Jetsam, including editions from March 2017, September 2022, December 2022, and May 2023.
