Rate My Professor Mark Taylor

Professor Mark Taylor serves as Dean of Research in the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University, where he is also Strategic Professor in Biomedical Engineering and a full member of the Medical Device Research Institute. He holds a B.Eng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wales College Cardiff awarded in 1991, an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering Science from the University of Dundee awarded in 1992, and a Ph.D. in Orthopaedic Biomechanics from the University of London awarded in 1997. With over 25 years of experience in orthopaedic biomechanics across both academia and industry, Professor Taylor worked at Finsbury Orthopaedics from 1997 to 1999 and at the University of Southampton from 1998 to 2012 before joining Flinders University in 2012, where he has continued his academic career to the present.

His primary research focuses on the applications of in silico medicine to orthopaedics, encompassing areas such as the diagnosis of osteoporosis, pre-clinical testing, in silico clinical trials, and surgical planning for total hip and knee replacements, with a particular emphasis on evaluating the capacity of computational models to predict in vivo performance. In 1997, Professor Taylor received the Gisela Sturm Award for Innovation in Artificial Joint Replacement from the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT).
