Martin Cloutier serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the College of Staten Island (CSI), part of the City University of New York (CUNY). He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the English Department at Hunter College, CUNY. Listed among the CSI LGBTQ+ Faculty & Staff, Cloutier contributes to the institution's commitment to diversity and inclusion within its academic community.
Cloutier is an accomplished author and creative writer. In the summer of 2022, his original creative work 'Broken Poet' was published through CUNY Academic Works, affiliated with CSI. His debut novel, 'Waiting for Something Else,' published by Heliotrope Books on June 3, 2025, was selected as a finalist for the LAMBDA Literary Award in Gay Fiction, as announced in March 2026 and highlighted in CSI's Faculty Accolades. The novel is described as an irreverent, unrequited sex comedy. Cloutier's short stories have appeared in prestigious literary journals including Harvard Review, Crazyhorse, Post Road, Tampa Review, Shenandoah, and Story Quarterly. He is a New York Foundation for the Arts Artist Fellow in fiction. Cloutier is scheduled to present and discuss his novel at a CUNY Academy Book Talk event at the CUNY Graduate Center on April 17, 2026. These achievements underscore his contributions to contemporary literature and his role in fostering creative expression within the CUNY system.
