Rate My Professor Martin Egan

Martin Egan is currently pursuing an Industry PhD at the University of Technology Sydney's Institute for Sustainable Futures, focusing on innovative strategies to advance the energy transition. His research project, titled "How can the 'customer first' and iterative approaches of successful Australian and International start-ups be applied to help the energy transition?", is part of the RACE for 2030 program, a collaboration between UTS and Solar Analytics. Started in August 2021, the project aims to conclude in August 2025. Egan's work explores the crucial role consumers play in reshaping the energy landscape, advocating for methodologies that place customer needs at the forefront and foster iterative development to promote sustainable energy adoption.

Egan brings substantial industry experience to his academic pursuits. As Product Director at Solar Analytics, Australia's leading independent solar energy management platform, he spearheaded the development of customer-facing photovoltaic data services. This role marked his entry into the renewable energy sector, where he also led multiple community energy initiatives and researched government-backed Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programs. Prior to Solar Analytics, Egan contributed to digital product development at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), honing skills in innovation and user-centered design. He holds a Master's degree in Design Thinking from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

At UTS, Egan contributes to teaching as a tutor in the Transdisciplinary School, including for the subject "Reframing Society & Climate" (95002). He is a member of the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN), participating in the thematic group on Education and Learning in Sustainability Transitions. Egan presented on consumer perspectives in energy innovation at the UTS ISF Summer of Evidence and Research Communication (SoERC) 2023.
