Marybeth Baggett is Professor of English and Cultural Apologetics at Houston Christian University, where she serves as chairperson of the Apologetics Department within the School of Christian Thought. She earned her PhD in Literature and Criticism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2010. Previously, she held the position of Associate Professor of English at Liberty University. Baggett brings over 17 years of teaching experience in composition, literature, and literary criticism to her role. Her academic career focuses on moral apologetics, the intersection of literature and philosophy, and cultural apologetics, particularly through the lens of popular culture and narrative analysis.
Baggett's contributions to scholarship include co-authoring 'The Morals of the Story: Good News about a Good God' with David Baggett in 2018, a work that received Christianity Today’s 2019 Book Award of Merit in the Apologetics/Evangelism category. She also co-authored 'Telling Tales: Intimations of the Sacred in Popular Culture' in 2021 and co-edited 'Ted Lasso and Philosophy: No Question Is into Touch' in 2024, both with David Baggett. Additional publications feature chapters in 'The Good Place and Philosophy' (2020) and articles on topics such as narrative ethics and moral reasoning in literature. As associate editor for MoralApologetics.com, she supports research in moral philosophy and apologetics. Baggett is a senior research fellow at the Center for Moral Apologetics and engages in public discourse through HCU’s 'Think About It' podcast, addressing moral apologetics, philosophy, and literary criticism.
