MaryJo Rosania Harvie is Assistant Professor of Art and Director of Art Education at Moravian University. She holds an Ed.D. in Transformational Teaching and Learning from Kutztown University, an M.F.A. from Vermont College of Fine Arts, a B.F.A. from Kutztown University, and post-baccalaureate certification in Art Education from Kutztown University. Certified in K-12 Art Education and Educational Administration in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, she came to Moravian after a 20-year career in public art education. Since 2001, she has taught students at multiple levels in various settings, primarily focusing on high school art education as a teacher for 17 years, supervisor of fine and performing arts, and high school administrator for five years. Currently pursuing an M.S.W. through the Macro/Social Justice pathway at Moravian University, Dr. Rosania Harvie serves on the visual art board at ArtsQuest and its Education and Gallery committees. She is a practicing interdisciplinary artist whose work encompasses fiber arts, video and animation, and wearable art.
Dr. Rosania Harvie's scholarship centers on arts integration in schools and communities, educator identities, feminist leadership, teacher leadership, educator critical reflection, and the impact of memories and experiences in education. Her interests extend to intergenerational art experiences and community arts as means to build and repair relationships. At Moravian University, located in the Art Department, South Hall, Office Room 6, she teaches Creativity, Art, and Social Practice; Art and Child Development; Art Education Curriculum and Instruction, PK-6; Art Education Curriculum and Instruction, 7-12; Art Education Seminar for Student Teachers; Arts Across the Lifespan; and Professional Practices in Art Education. She directs the Moravian Pre-Service Chapter of the National Art Education Association, overseeing student membership and activities. Dr. Rosania Harvie believes an integrated creative arts education fosters collaborative communities and equips students as creators and critical thinkers for creative problem-solving and self-expression, though this perspective informs her teaching approach.
