Rate My Professor Mathieu Leloup

Leloup’s research focuses on constitutional and fundamental rights law, with particular attention to institutional questions including separation of powers, judicial independence, judicial governance, multilevel constitutionalism, and election law. He maintains a strong interest in the interactions between supranational and national legal orders as well as the intersection of fundamental rights and constitutional law. Since 2021 he has served as a postdoctoral researcher at Masaryk University in Brno on the ERC-funded INFINITY project concerning informal judicial institutions. He is also a tenure-track professor of constitutional law at Ghent University and serves as Tilburg University’s member on the Advisory Committee of the ICON-S Benelux chapter. His recent publications address topics such as mutual trust and fundamental rights safeguards, the effects of EU primacy on national legal systems, and the role of non-independent apex courts under the European Convention on Human Rights.
