Dr. Matthew Skerritt is a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at RMIT University in the School of Science. He holds a Bachelor of Computer Science, a Bachelor of Mathematics with Honours, a Master of Philosophy, and a PhD awarded in 2020 by the University of Newcastle. His academic career includes prior affiliation with the University of Newcastle, where he completed his doctoral studies, followed by his current appointment at RMIT University.
Dr. Skerritt’s research focuses on experimental mathematics, numerical and computational mathematics, pure mathematics, and cybersecurity. He is a member of the RMIT Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation and the CARMA research centre for Computer-assisted Research Mathematics and its Applications. Key publications include co-authorship with Jonathan M. Borwein of the books An Introduction to Modern Mathematical Computing: With Maple (2011) and An Introduction to Modern Mathematical Computing: With Mathematica (2012), as well as papers such as Computation of an improved lower bound to Giuga’s primality conjecture (2014), Computing intersections of implicitly specified plane curves (2017), and Dynamics of the Douglas-Rachford Method for Ellipses and p-Spheres (2018). His work has received citations in scholarly literature. He also serves in an Early Career Development Fellow role combining mathematics and cybersecurity teaching and research.
