About Marie Claire
Marie Claire Uwera serves as an Assistant Lecturer of Computer Science at the University of Rwanda College of Education, the institution formerly known as the Kigali Institute of Education. She has held this appointment since 2012 in the Mathematics, Sciences and Physical Education department. Uwera obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Education from the Kigali Institute of Education in 2011, a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Mysore in India in 2015, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Rwanda College of Education in 2016. Her academic work centers on the integration of information and communication technologies in higher education and secondary school settings, with particular emphasis on ICT-supported active learning approaches for science and basic computing instruction in lower secondary schools across Rwanda, the application of computer-based simulations to improve teaching and learning in mathematics and physics, and the deployment of artificial intelligence tools to facilitate undergraduate science experiments at the University of Rwanda College of Education. Uwera maintains active involvement in professional development, holding Microsoft Office Specialist certification and completing programs in blended learning practice, learning to learn online, technology-enabled learning, digital skills, and competency-based education between 2020 and 2024. She is a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World and contributes to initiatives advancing technology integration in Rwandan educational contexts.
