Dr. Lim Mei Kuan is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Technology at Monash University Malaysia. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Computer Science from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, awarded in 2007, and a PhD in Computer Vision from the University of Malaya in 2015, with her thesis focusing on activity understanding and abnormal event detection in video surveillance. She further pursued post-doctoral research in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Malaya until 2016. Her academic journey began with research experience at MIMOS Berhad from 2004 to 2007, where she developed intelligent video analytics solutions for surveillance. She also served as a visiting researcher at Kingston University, United Kingdom, in 2012 and 2013.
Dr. Lim's research specializes in swarm intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, pattern recognition, data and video analytics, social media analytics using visual and textual data, and anomaly detection, with practical applications in smart manufacturing and digital health. Notable projects include Visual and Data Analytics for Surveillance and Healthcare, leveraging social media for mental health monitoring, and Wisdom of the Crowd, optimizing computer vision models via swarm intelligence for tasks like crowd anomaly detection. She received the Yayasan Khazanah scholarship supporting her doctoral studies. Key publications feature "Machine learning for multimodal mental health detection: A systematic review of passive sensing approaches" (Sensors, 2024), "Semantic analysis of social network site data for flood mapping and assessment" (Journal of Hydrology, 2024), "Siformer: Feature-isolated Transformer for Efficient Skeleton-based Sign Language Recognition" (ACM Multimedia, 2024), "ASDF: A differential testing framework for Automatic Speech Recognition systems" (ICST, 2023), and contributions to deepfake detection and UAV patrolling. With over 1,000 citations, her work impacts areas aligned with UN SDGs such as good health, clean energy, and economic growth. Dr. Lim serves as a reviewer for conferences and journals, has been on organizing committees for ACPR 2015 and VCIP 2013, and engages in outreach like the 2024 industrial trip to JurisTech on data science in fintech. She is open to supervising PhD students.
