About Merlinde

Associate Professor Merlinde Kay is a member of the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of New South Wales. She holds a PhD in atmospheric physics from UNSW and has more than 18 years of experience in weather forecasting applied to renewable energy. Her research examines the effects of weather and climate on renewable technologies, with particular emphasis on weather forecasting, wind forecasting, and the impacts of aerosol particulates on solar technology.

Kay has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics including solar irradiance forecasting, the resilience of Australian wind energy to climate change, atmospheric aerosols, and the influence of bushfires and climate projections on photovoltaic generation. She co-authored the 2014 book chapter 'Improving NWP Forecasts for the Wind Energy Sector' in Weather Matters for Energy. Her work supports advancements in renewable energy integration through improved forecasting and climate impact assessments.
