Rate My Professor Michael Baumann

Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h. c. Michael Baumann is a distinguished radiation oncologist and radiation biologist. He completed his medical studies at the University of Hamburg, where he earned his doctorate in medicine in 1988 and habilitation in 1994. Following specialist training in radiotherapy, he conducted postdoctoral research at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. In 1995, he joined the Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus at the Dresden University of Technology as Head of Experimental Radiooncology. Appointed Professor of Radiooncology in 2001, he served as Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, Director of the Institute of Radiooncology at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Director of the OncoRay – National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology, and Founding Director of the University Cancer Center Dresden. He also acted as Spokesperson for the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) and National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) partner site Dresden. Since November 1, 2016, Baumann has been Chairman and Scientific Director of the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, overseeing its strategic and scientific direction. He heads the Division of Radiooncology and Radiobiology at DKFZ, bridging preclinical research with clinical applications.
