About Michael

Michael Bezuhly is an Associate Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery within the Department of Surgery and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Dalhousie University. He also serves as Director of Research for the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His hospital affiliations include the IWK Health Centre and the Capital District Health Authority at the Halifax Infirmary Site. Dr. Bezuhly completed a BSc at McGill University, an MD at the University of Toronto, a plastic surgery residency and Clinical Investigator Residency Program at Dalhousie University, an MSc in anatomy and neurobiology at Dalhousie University, an MSc in epidemiology at Harvard University, a clinical pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto, and a pediatric craniofacial fellowship with Dr. Eric Arnaud at Hôpital Necker-Enfant Malades in Paris, France.

His research interests include cleft lip and palate outcomes research, craniofacial surgery outcomes research, autologous fat grafting and adipose-derived stem cell biology, skin fibrosis and anti-scarring therapy development, and breast cancer and melanoma metastasis research. Selected publications include work on M2 macrophages and autologous fat graft survival (Plast Reconstr Surg, 2014), the P2Y12 inhibitor ticagrelor and cancer metastasis (Int J Cancer, 2014), a nasal stent for cleft nasal repair (Cleft Palate Craniofac J, 2014), autologous fat grafting for velopharyngeal insufficiency (J Plast Reconstr Aesthet Surg, 2014), and single-stage repair of asymmetrical bilateral cleft lip (Plast Reconstr Surg, 2012).
