Michael A. Davenport brings over 30 years of legal and business counsel experience to his role as Business Advisor in Houston Community College's Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program. He is the founder of Davenport Law, a risk management and litigation firm established in 1984. A retired Commander of the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, Davenport served in the U.S. Navy JAG from 1982 to 2003. He also worked as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas from 1989 to 1994. Davenport earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Southern University in 1984 and a Bachelor of Arts from Alcorn State University in 1978. Licensed to practice law in Texas since 1984, he is a member of the State Bar of Texas with no record of misconduct.
Davenport served as an adjunct professor at Houston Community College from 2001 to 2012, where he taught in the Business department, including courses such as Business Law (BUSLAW, BUSGLAW, BUSINESSLAW), BUSI2301, and BUSG2305. He also taught as an adjunct professor at Lone Star College from 2010 to 2011. In his private practice as owner of Davenport Law Offices since 1994, his primary practice areas are business (50%), contracts and agreements (20%), corporate and incorporation (20%), and estate planning (10%).
