Dr Michael Elkin serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Otago, Wellington campus. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine - Wellington within the Health Sciences Division. Additionally, he holds the position of Honorary Clinical Lecturer in the same department. His professional role involves contributions to the university's medical education programs.
Dr Elkin participates in teaching obstetrics and gynaecology to medical students, serving as a convener for the 'Obstetrics & Gynaecology 5' module in the curriculum. He has been involved in clinical practice at Wellington Regional Hospital as part of the obstetrics team. In 2025, he co-authored and presented a poster at the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand (PSANZ) conference titled 'Optimising Culturally Safe and Self-Determined Management of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus for Pacific Women: A Retrospective Audit', conducted at Wellington Hospital.
