Michael Gorman, Ph.D., is the Undergraduate Analytics Program Director and Associate Teaching Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance at Sacred Heart University's Jack Welch College of Business and Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Finance from Rutgers University between 2009 and 2016, M.Sc. in Statistics from Purdue University from 2005 to 2007, and B.Sc. in Management Science from Lancaster University from 2002 to 2005. Gorman brings a blend of industry and academic experience to his role, having previously worked as a consultant on big data projects related to market research and sales. He currently instructs students in finance and analytics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In recognition of his dedication, he was promoted to Associate Teaching Professor in finance in May 2025.
Gorman's academic interests lie in asset pricing and financial management. His doctoral dissertation, "Essays on Measuring Asset Pricing Anomalies," published in 2016, explored the momentum anomaly and the potential profitability of momentum trading strategies in the U.S. equities market. Notable peer-reviewed publications include "Does bitcoin still enhance an investment portfolio in a post Covid-19 world?" co-authored with W. K. Hughen (Finance Research Letters, April 2024); "Dynamic interactions between Central European currencies and the euro" with L. T. Orlowski and M. H. Roessler (Economic Systems, September 2020); "Analyzing performance under ASC 842" with B. M. Lyons and B. M. Tarasovich (Strategic Finance, February 2020); "The Treatment of Debt in WACC Calculations in the Airline Industry: Evidence From Equity Research Analysts" with R. Langrick and B. Lyons (Journal of Accounting and Finance, 2026); and "Exploring the Equity Impact: Analyzing the Relationship between Railroad Safety and Sociodemographic Factors" with S. Zahedian, A. Maharjan, and M. L. Franz (Transportation Research Record, 2025). Additionally, Gorman earned the Fisher-Long-Whitcomb award for teaching excellence from Rutgers University in 2024.
