Rate My Professor Michael Kennedy

In a key academic contribution, Dr. Kennedy co-authored the paper 'Enhancing Welding Technician Training with Practical Fixturing Experience,' presented at the ATMAE Annual Conference 2025. Working with Benjamin Garland and Dr. Nilesh Joshi, both from Eastern Kentucky University, the work introduces an innovative hands-on module for welding technician programs. This module addresses critical gaps in practical experience by utilizing a small-scale, low-cost, replicable fixture and sample part. It teaches essential skills including fixturing weldments, blueprint interpretation, fabrication standards, precise measurement, accurate layout, and critical thinking. The training incorporates CAD modeling for design and peer review processes to foster collaborative learning. Designed for easy integration into existing lesson plans, the module aligns directly with college and career readiness objectives. Implementation results demonstrate increased student confidence, improved dimensional accuracy in weldments, and reduced assembly times. By emphasizing industry-relevant practices through accessible tools, Kennedy and his co-authors provide a model for enhancing workforce readiness in applied engineering education. His involvement in such interdisciplinary efforts underscores his commitment to developing real-world competencies for students entering manufacturing and technology sectors. Through these initiatives, Kennedy supports the advancement of technology education at Eastern Kentucky University.
