Professor Michael Kohn serves as Clinical Professor in the Westmead Clinical School at the University of Sydney. He is also Professor of Paediatrics & Child Health in the School of Medicine at Western Sydney University and Head of Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Westmead Hospital. Kohn holds MBBS, FRACP, and PhD degrees. Throughout his career, he has focused on clinical practice and research in adolescent medicine, with longstanding affiliations at key Sydney paediatric institutions including The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
His research interests encompass the pathophysiology and management of eating disorders in adolescents and young adults, including anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and associated complications such as arterial stiffness, bone health, and renal function changes during refeeding. Additional areas include ADHD subtypes, neural profiles, treatment responses to medications like atomoxetine, and healthcare transitions for young people with chronic conditions. Kohn has produced over 157 research outputs, comprising 129 articles, 15 reviews, and other contributions. Key publications include "A pilot prospective study of arterial stiffness during weight restoration in adolescents with anorexia nervosa" (Tee et al., 2025, Eating and Weight Disorders), "Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder subtypes defined by cognition have a distinct neural and clinical profile and differ in response to atomoxetine" (Leikauf et al., 2025, Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry), "Changes in eGFR in adolescent and young adult inpatients receiving nutritional rehabilitation for a restrictive eating disorder: a five-year clinical audit" (Thompson et al., 2025, Journal of Eating Disorders), "The impact of perceived self-efficacy on healthcare transition outcomes: perceptions from parents and young people" (Kwok et al., 2025, Child: Care, Health and Development), and "Outcomes of a rapid refeeding protocol in Adolescent Anorexia Nervosa" (Madden et al., 2015, Journal of Eating Disorders). He directs the Centre for Research into Adolescents' Health (CRASH) and chairs ADHD Australia since 2015, advancing clinical standards in paediatric and adolescent mental health.
