Dr. Michael L. West is a professor of medicine at Dalhousie University. He earned his MD from Queen’s University, completed internship and residency training in internal medicine at Dalhousie University, and pursued residency training in nephrology as well as a research fellowship in renal physiology and acid-base and electrolyte disorders at the University of Toronto. He serves as assistant dean of research for clinical trials at Dalhousie University and as director of the Nova Scotia Fabry Disease Clinic. Dr. West is a past president of the Canadian Society of Nephrology and has acted as principal investigator of the Canadian Fabry Disease Initiative, a multi-centre national study focused on enzyme replacement therapy in Fabry disease. His research topics include Fabry disease and enzyme replacement therapy, and he has contributed to studies on gene therapy approaches for the condition.
