About Michael

Michael S. Zhdanov joined the University of Utah as a full professor in 1993 and has served as director of the Consortium for Electromagnetic Modeling and Inversion (CEMI) since 1995. He holds the position of Distinguished Professor of Geophysics in the Department of Geology and Geophysics. Zhdanov earned an M.Sc. in Geophysics from Moscow Gubkin State University of Oil and Gas in 1968, an M.Sc. in Mathematics from Moscow State University in 1969, a Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics from Moscow State University in 1970, and a Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics from Moscow State University in 1978. His research focuses on theoretical and applied geophysics, with emphasis on electromagnetic methods and geophysical inverse theory.

Zhdanov has authored or co-authored numerous monographs, including Geophysical Inverse Theory and Regularization Problems (2002), Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods (2009), Inverse Theory and Applications in Geophysics (2015), and Foundations of Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods (2017). He has received honors such as Honorary Gauss Professor from the Göttingen Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Fellow of the Electromagnetics Academy, Honorary Professor of the China National Center of Geological Exploration Technology, and Honorary Member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Zhdanov maintains memberships in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the American Geophysical Union, and the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysics.
