Miguel Guimaraes Barros De Sa is a Lecturer of Psychology in the Department of Health Sciences within the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences at Curtin University Malaysia. Holding a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Minho in Portugal, he brings extensive practical experience to his academic role. Prior to his appointment at Curtin Malaysia, Miguel spent most of his career working as both a clinical and forensic psychologist in public and private institutions in Portugal. His professional background emphasizes hands-on fieldwork, contributing to his expertise in psychological assessment and intervention.
As a newly appointed lecturer, Miguel teaches several key courses in the Psychological Science program, including Abnormal Psychology, Science and Professional Practice in Psychology, and Mixed Methods Research in Health Psychology. He is passionate about research in clinical psychology, with particular interests in personality disorders, psychopathy, and forensic assessment. His current research focuses on the validation and cultural adaptation of psychological assessment tools for the Malaysian population, aiming to enhance the applicability of these instruments in diverse cultural contexts. Miguel has actively participated in university initiatives, serving on the scientific committee for the GloBeCoRes event and contributing to the Service-Learning Integrated Community Engagement (SLICE) programme, where he mentored students in community-based projects. Additionally, he was a successful recipient of the 2025 Curtin Malaysia Teaching Innovation Project (CMTIP) grant, recognizing his contributions to innovative teaching practices. Through his teaching, research, and service activities, Miguel Guimaraes Barros De Sa supports the development of future psychologists equipped to address complex mental health challenges in Malaysia and beyond.
