Rate My Professor Minder Chen

Minder Chen is a Professor of Management Information Systems in the Martin V. Smith School of Business and Economics at California State University Channel Islands. He holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona (1988), an M.B.A. from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan (1983), and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University, Taiwan (1979). Before his current role, Chen served as Program Chair of the Business and Economics Program at CSUCI. Previously, he was an Associate Professor of Decision Science and Management Information Systems at George Mason University, where he acted as Area Coordinator for the Information Systems and Operations Management area and Director of the Executive Master Program in Technology Management. His research specializations include service management, electronic commerce, web services, business process reengineering, innovation, collaboration technologies and virtual teams, IT offshore outsourcing, object-oriented systems development methodology, business intelligence, data analytics, and AI in business.

Chen has authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles in outlets such as Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Service Science, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, and Industrial Management & Data Systems. Key publications encompass 'Systems development in information systems research' (1990, 2597 citations), 'Factors affecting the adoption and diffusion of XML and Web services standards for E-business systems' (2003, 213 citations), 'Impacts of ERP systems on the integrated-interaction performance of manufacturing and marketing' (2004, 198 citations), and 'Empowering collaborative commerce with Web services enabled business process management systems' (2007, 195 citations). He has published books in Chinese on I-Ching and Management, Creativity, Management Information Systems, and Lean Interactive Startup. Professionally, he was founding co-editor-in-chief of Service Science (2009-2012) and remains an advisory member, alongside serving as Associate Editor of Electronic Commerce Research Journal. Chen delivered keynote speeches at the International Conference on Information Management (2007, Taipei) and a Microsoft-sponsored ICIS pre-conference on XML Web Services and E-Business (2002). He teaches courses including Management Information Systems (MIS 310), Digital Transformation and Business Innovation (BUS 550), and Generative Artificial Intelligence (MSBA 570).
