Dr Mireia Guix Navarrete serves as Lecturer in Tourism at the University of Queensland's School of Business, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. Her research focuses on how tourism and hospitality organizations approach change to integrate sustainability considerations and report on their progress for external accountability. Key areas include corporate social responsibility, social and environmental accounting, climate change impacts on tourism destinations, and human rights issues such as modern slavery prevention in the sector. She has participated in projects funded by the European Union, the United Nations Environmental Program, and the Inter-American Development Bank, conducting stakeholder consultations for sustainable tourism policies and evaluating industry disclosure towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Guix regularly publishes in prestigious journals like Tourism Management, Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, and International Journal of Hospitality Management.
She earned her PhD in Tourism and Hospitality Management from the University of Surrey, a Research Master's in Sustainable Development, Tourism and Nature Conservation from Leeds Metropolitan University, and both a Bachelor (Honours) and Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management from Universitat Ramon Llull. Selected key publications include: "Navigating the uncharted: a crisis response mix to creeping ‘unknowns’" with Alexandros Paraskevas (Tourism Management, 2023); "Consulting on the European Union's 2050 tourism policies: an appreciative inquiry materiality assessment" with Xavier Font (Annals of Tourism Research, 2022); "Trustworthy or misleading communication of voluntary carbon offsets in the aviation industry" with Claudia Ollé and Xavier Font (Tourism Management, 2022); "Doing the right thing? The hotel industry's management of, and reporting on, modern slavery" with Maryam Lotfy (Tourism Management, 2025); "The changing institutional logics behind sustainability reports from the largest hotel groups" with Juan José Nájera Sánchez, Ma Jesús Bonilla Priego, and Xavier Font (Tourism Management, 2025); and "The Materiality Balanced Scorecard: a framework for stakeholder-led integration of sustainable hospitality management and reporting" with Xavier Font (International Journal of Hospitality Management, 2020). Additionally, she supervises doctoral students on heritage tourism and women's empowerment in tourism sectors, contributes to the Sustainable Business Research Hub, and serves as a media expert on sustainability and CSR topics in tourism.
