Dr Mirjana Prica holds a doctorate in physical chemistry and possesses extensive national and international experience in research commercialisation, executive roles, and strategic leadership within the food and agribusiness sector. She serves as a key member of the Advisory Board for the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER) at the University of Newcastle, bringing her expertise to support interdisciplinary research in energy, resources, food, and water. A trained scientist, Dr Prica has collaborated with leading research institutions and industry partners to advance innovation and commercial outcomes.
As Managing Director of Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL), established under the Australian Federal Government’s Industry Growth Centres Initiative, Dr Prica is responsible for identifying growth opportunities, developing strategic initiatives, and leading efforts to build capability across the Australian food and agribusiness industry. She fosters connections and collaborations between stakeholders, including businesses, researchers, and government, to enhance sector competitiveness and drive economic impact. Previously, she held senior positions at multinational organisations such as George Weston Foods (as General Manager Analytical Services), Associated British Foods, and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). With over 20 years of experience in food and agribusiness, including advanced materials and minerals processing, Dr Prica has worked across private enterprise, not-for-profit entities, and research organisations. In 2016, she published a book profiling 50 Australian companies that launched innovative products in the food and agribusiness sector in 2014, initiating a series that celebrates industry achievements. Dr Prica also holds the position of Industry Professor and Director of the Food Innovation Hub at RMIT University, School of Science. Described as an enthusiastic visionary, she emphasises entrepreneurship, cluster development, and innovation to deliver commercial value and sits on multiple boards and advisory committees in food manufacturing, agriculture, research, and manufacturing.
