Professor Mohamed Bin Huwaidin serves as Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of International Relations at the United Arab Emirates University. He is affiliated with the Department of Government and Society. His academic work centers on international relations, with particular emphasis on China’s relations with the Middle East and the security of the Gulf region.

Professor Bin Huwaidin authored the book China’s Relations with Arabia and the Gulf 1949-1999, published by Routledge in 2003. His recent peer-reviewed articles include “UAE’s Balancing Strategy Between the United States and China,” published in Middle East Policy in 2024; “China’s Strategic Partnership with the UAE: Foundation and Prospects,” published in Comparative Strategy in 2022; “China and India’s Soft Rivalry in the Gulf Region,” published in the Journal of the Indian Ocean Region in 2022; and “Oman’s Response to a Rising Iran: A Case of Strategic Hedging,” published in the Journal of Arabian Studies in 2019. He has also co-authored work on the rise of China as a hegemonic power. These contributions examine strategic partnerships, regional security dynamics, and foreign policy interactions involving the UAE, China, and other Gulf states.
