Dr. Mohammed Meer serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus, with a focus on dentistry and oral health. Registered as a Specialist Oral Surgeon with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), he obtained specialist registration in 2011 after completing the Australian Dental Council assessment. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa (1993), a Diploma in Odontology Oral Surgery cum laude from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, a Masters of Dental Science from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, and a Graduate Certificate in Education. Upon moving to Australia in 2006, Meer served as a Lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Dentistry. In 2008 and 2009, he was Acting Discipline Lead in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Griffith University. He has extensive experience in clinical teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students across Queensland dental schools.
Dr. Meer's research specializations include oral-gastrointestinal microbiome dynamics, periodontal ligament stem cell gene expression, photobiomodulation in dentistry, and advanced surgical techniques such as CBCT segmentation for endodontic management. Key publications comprise 'Composition and Interactions of the Oral–Gastrointestinal Microbiome Populations During Orthodontic Treatment' (2025, with M.M. Bakr et al., Dentistry Journal), 'Comparative Analysis of Gene Expression in Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells Exposed to Biodentine and Bio-C Repair: Implications for Cementogenesis—An In Vitro Study' (2025), systematic reviews on photobiomodulation efficacy for bone healing post-tooth extraction (2018), and case reports on 3D-printed stents for root canal ledges (2023). His works have garnered over 140 citations. At Griffith University, he contributes to teaching courses like Professional Practice 3 and Comprehensive Care, alongside clinical supervision in oral surgery procedures including dental implants, wisdom teeth extractions, bone grafting, and temporomandibular joint disorders.
