Mohsen Shahandashti, Ph.D., P.E., is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Associate Dean of Programs in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Building Construction, completing his doctorate in 2014. Shahandashti began his academic career at UTA as an assistant professor, advancing to full professor, as recognized by a memorial book presentation in the UTA Libraries. He currently directs the North Texas Initiative for Resilient Infrastructure, promoting resilience against natural hazards in the region. His professional roles integrate research, teaching, and administration to advance engineering education and infrastructure solutions.
Shahandashti's expertise centers on construction engineering and management and infrastructure systems engineering and management. His research specializations include resilient infrastructure, construction analytics, AI applications in transportation planning and infrastructure assessment, post-hazard labor dynamics, and data-driven forecasting for construction projects. He has authored over 140 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers. Key publications feature the 2023 book 'Construction Analytics: Forecasting and Investment Valuation,' co-authored with UTA students, which provides hands-on examples and code for addressing cost overruns and scheduling issues. In teaching, he has developed and taught 10 graduate and undergraduate courses, created industry-facing professional certificates, and built the curriculum for UTA's ABET-accredited Construction Management program serving nearly 600 students. Shahandashti has mentored numerous students to awards and professional success. For his innovation, mentorship, and classroom excellence, he received the 2025 UT Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award, one of the UT System's highest honors, accompanied by a $25,000 cash award, medallion, and certificate.
